Cat Ba Island - An Exciting Trip On Your Journey

Cat Ba is a beautiful island of Hai Phong province. It have about 367 islands of various sizes. The main island Cat Ba is linked to Halong Bay by a fascinating complex of island and caves.

At here, some bays as : Ha LanBay, Dau Be and Van Boi island.... There are many beautiful cliffs suitable for climbing for tourists who love adventure travel, the beauty of spectacular scenery and the romance of natural are tourist highlights here. One of favourite spot of climbers is Tien Ong island in Ha Lan bay. it's small island along with caves, rock and stalactites. This is an ideal spot to climb as there are low cliffs, and the climbing routes are simple and suitable for people who are afraid of adventure sports.

Beside, Cat Ba National Park is located in Cat Hai district, Hai Phong City, Hai Phong province belonging to Cat Ba island. With total area is 26,3000 ha, this national park incorporates a main island, some of the small island and marine water.

The landscape of Cat Ba National Park is dominated by karst limestone areas on the main island where there are numerous waterfalls, caves and grottoes. The rugged topography is marked by steep outcrops and bare rock areas with many seasonal streams such as Thung Luong, Treo Com, Hoi Trung Trang and Viet Hai.

Most of the rain water flows into caves and grottoes and follows underground streams to the sea. There are several small lakes and ponds in the hills; the largest is Ech Lake- a permanent water body with an area of 3ha and a depth of about 50m.

Featured by tropical monsoon climate with pronounced wet and dry seasons, Cat Ba National Park receives the annual rainfall from 1,700mm to 1,800mm. The annual temperature at sea level is 25oC to 28oC associated with the moderate annual relative humidity is 85%. So, the ideal time to discover Cat Ba National Park is from April to October.

Cat Ba National Park has a rich and plentiful snail fauna, the most popular are ungulate and primate. It supports a diversity of natural habitats, including forested hills, small freshwater lakes, freshwater swamp forest, mangroves, sandy beaches and coral reefs. Among 839 vascular plant species have been recorded at the national park, there are 25 species listed in the Red Data Book of Vietnam. Beside, the limestone habitat at Cat Ba National Park is an idea environment for a number of invertebrate species.
