Around 70 kilometers from Hanoi,
Tam Dao National Park extends 80 km in the northwest and southeast direction,
bordering the provinces of Thai Nguyen, Tuyen Quang and Vinh Phuc with its
total area is 36,883 hectares, including more than 23,000 hectares of forests.
Tam Dao National Park is covered by a rich flora, consisting of 490
species from 34 genera and 130 families. There is a great deal of rare and
valuable plants as Sam bong, fokienia hodginsir, polocarpus fleuryi, chukrasta
tabularis, Erythrophlocum fordii, Rhododentron simii, Madhuca
pasquieri, and Podocarpus nerliforlius.
Tam Dao National Park is also
home to 281 species of fauna from 281 genera, 84 families and 26 orders belonging
to 4 main classes: animals, birds, reptiles etc. Among the variety of life
forms in the park are several rare species, including cheek black monkey, TamDao snake-head fish, silver pheasant wood grouses etc.
Due to the tall mountainous range that splits the area into two parts,
the national park's climatic condition is divided into two areas with different
rainfalls. This difference and some other factors such as the effect of human
activity divide the park into some smaller climatic zones which increase the
bio-diversity in the park.
Tam Dao is a place of interest
not only for domestic and international tourists, but also businesspeople and
researchers because of its magical beauty.
Moreover, visiting the park,
visitors have a chance to view Tam Dao Town which was established at the
beginning of the 20th century. This town is nestled in a valley covering only 3
km2. There now remain some villas and palaces built by French colonists. Silver
waterfall, Rung Rinh Peak and Tam Dao 2 belong in the another resort built many
years ago.
For Buddhist tourists, Tay Thien
is a ideal place to visit. It includes
Tay Thien Quoc Mau Temple and many pagodas. Along with Thien Vien Truc Lam in
Da Lat and Yen Tu, Thien Vien Truc Lam Tay Thien is a center of Vietnamese Buddhism.
Tam Dao National Park is really a promising area, a center for forest
ecological research on rare and valuable flora and fauna. The park is ready to
welcome domestic and international visitors.
