Considered one of the most important Hindu temples in Southeast Asia. My Son ruins is an ancient Cham city set in a small valley about 40km from Hoi An City. In fact, it was abandoned in jungles for centuries until being discovered by a French scientist in 1898. The earliest structures of the temple complex date back to the 4th century. Like so much in Vietnam, the site was extensively damaged due to carpet bombings by the American. Over time, the My Son Sanctuary has remained a mysterious appearance. Hindu gods still quietly occupy elaborately carved stone niches in the temples that survived. 
Culture, people and livelihoods can vary considerably from one part of the Mekong Delta to the other. Most interesting is taking in the lifestyles of local people, who may well invite you into their home for a visit or take you on a boat trip to enjoy some traditional music. The Southern folk music called Don Ca Tai Tu reflects the lifestyle of people in Mekong Delta and helps them express feelings and encourage them in hard life.
