Vietnamese food has long been
appreciated in France, yet, it was the U.S residents who discovered its fine
features. Vietnamese chefs like to refer to their cooking as "the nouvelle
cuisine of Asia." Indeed, with the heavy reliance on rice, wheat and
legumes, abundance of fresh herbs and vegetables, minimal use of oil as well as
treatment of meat as a condiment rather than a main course, Vietnamese food has
to be among the healthiest on the planet.
Cuisine in the country with more
than 70,000,000 people differs strikingly between the north, south and central
regions, but two key features stand out.
When talking about Vietnam food,
one often mentions the main features as below:
Firstly, rice plays an essential
role in the nation's diet as it does throughout Southeast Asia. Humorous
speaking, Vietnamese is noodle-crazy. You have seen regularly the appearance of
noodle in their breakfast, lunch and dinner, in homes, restaurants and at
roadside stands. Noodles are eaten wet and dry, in soup or beside soup, and are
made in different shapes and thicknesses of wheat, rice and mung beans such as
bun cha, Cao Lau, Hue beef noodle, bun rieu…Rice is also a main ingredients for
making banh chung, banh bao, banh xeo, banh beo, xoi…
Chopsticks are small tapered
sticks used in pairs of equal length as the traditional eating utensils of
Vietnam, China, Korea and Japan. The etiquette of using the chopsticks are one
of unique spots of Vietnam culture.
However, when use chopsticks, you
should remember some etiquette as below:
Do not pick up food from the
table and place it directly in the mouth.
Do not tap on your bowl with your
chopstick. It is considered an act of trying to call on the dead.
The blunt end of the chopsticks can be use to pick up food and place it into the individual's bowl, while the
tapering end can be used for putting food into to the mouth.
The chopsticks should not touch
your lips, teeth, or tougue since it might also be used to pick food off a dish
that everyone shares.
Nowadays, for many people, travel
becomes one of the indispensable needs in the daily life. And of course, when
talking about travel, landscapes, culture, food and people in where they intend
to travel are the biggest interest for anyone of us. However, don't worry about
that. If all the things mentioned above are your hobbies, Vietnam is an amazing
destination that meets your whole expectations.
